Laboratory Manager
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our laboratory. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all activities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, safety regulations, and ethical standards. The role involves managing laboratory resources, supervising laboratory staff, maintaining equipment, ensuring quality control, and coordinating the lab’s activities to support research, testing, and education objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations Management:
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring its efficient functioning.
- Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and policies.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety, health, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the laboratory budget, ordering of supplies and equipment, and maintaining inventory.
- Coordinate and supervise the use of laboratory resources, including materials, chemicals, and instruments.
- Monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures and conduct regular safety training sessions for staff and students.
Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise and provide guidance to laboratory technicians, assistants, and other support staff.
- Coordinate staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and efficiency in the lab.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify opportunities for staff development and training.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting effective communication among team members.
Quality Control and Assurance
- Ensure that laboratory testing, research, and other activities meet the required quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain the accuracy and precision of laboratory results.
- Implement quality assurance programs to improve laboratory processes.
- Oversee and ensure the calibration, maintenance, and proper functioning of laboratory equipment.
Inventory and Equipment Management
- Track and manage laboratory supplies, ensuring an adequate stock of necessary materials.
- Develop and maintain an inventory management system for chemicals, reagents, and consumables.
- Ensure timely and proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate the procurement of new laboratory equipment and software.
Research and Development Support
- Assist research teams with experimental design, laboratory setup, and execution of projects.
- Provide technical expertise in conducting laboratory experiments and troubleshooting.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all research and testing activities.
- Support the preparation of reports, papers, and presentations as required for research activities.
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and international laboratory standards, including health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records, including experiment logs, maintenance schedules, and inventory reports.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management on laboratory performance, budget usage, and compliance issues.
- Liaise with external agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree or PhD in Laboratory Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or any related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory management, with a strong background in laboratory safety, operations, and team leadership.
- Skills:
- Excellent organizational and management skills.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in laboratory management software and data analysis tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team coordination and collaboration.
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and resolve technical issues.
- Certifications: Relevant laboratory certifications or licenses as required by regulations in Laboratory medicine/science.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position based in Lagos, Nigeria.
